Aloha readers! I know, this is a bit late... seeing as we now know who won, but it's been a bit of a crazy week! We all went to the knit and stitch show at the weekend and it was massively surreal. People hugged me! Madness!
However unfortunate the outcome, *single tear*, I really enjoyed week 5. I was dreading the episode a little to be honest, you just don't know how the edit's going to come out at the end of the day, and that's a very scary prospect especially when you've had a disaster to contend with. This was my most emotional episode so far, with wild laughter through the alteration, to unfortunate sad times after *zipgate*, which I'm hoping will catch on as a phrase.
I could not believe I was in the semi final,, the idea would just not sink in to my brain. People kept asking, what's it like to be in the semi final? And I'd laugh and I'd laugh... hence this:
But it all began with the lace skirt, which I actually wasn't as daunted by as I'd made a hundred New Look 6128 as long-time readers of the blog will know. You can see my first one here. Ha ha look at all that hair! That was a while ago can you tell?
I got third in the lace skirt, third!! I was so flipping happy with that, and Matt got his first first! Look at his happy face, I imagine him saying 'Get in' at this stage.
Claudia was very pleased with my choice of a lace top for lace day, 'cause I is psychic n that init. This is me definitely not saying 'Claudia likes me, Claudia LIKES me'
Apparently laughing through the entire challenge was my secret weapon, plus a bit of an idea of making a bodycon dress. I totally won! This is my winning face.
Thanks Mike for the awesome Vine! You are a genius of the video making world.
Aw, look at Claudia's face! Yeah... let's skim over this... Deborah 0 Zips 1
A few sappy words, The Sewing Bee was one of the favourite things I've ever done! I had a blast, and I know you're probably fed up of hearing this, but these guys are honestly some of the best people I've ever met. To sew in a room full of lovely people cannot be beat! So if anyone can think of a job where I would get paid to sit in a room full of my friends and sew... I'm in!
Also if you are thinking about giving sewing a go after the series, and are a little unsure, get stuck in! Make mistakes, use the seam ripper, throw your fabric in the corner. You will never look back, I promise the pride of of your first wobbly success will keep you sewing until you do something mad, like a wedding dress... or a sewing bee!

I loved watching you on this series! I followed your blog before the show, but probably never commented because I am lazy like that. But it was so nice to see someone "come to life" as it wear, on TV, as opposed to more one dimensional photos. I hope that makes sense?! Anyway, well done on giving the show a go, and congratulations on getting so far!!! X
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Helen! I know exactly what you mean, I read so many blogs and I love meeting people in person and seeing them 'in 3D', it gives you such a better idea not only of their personality, but how their clothes fit and hang in person. Thanks again!
DeleteWhen I saw that fabric I was just like YAAAAAAAAS *grabby hands*, the pretty fabric magpie in me went mental. I've been waiting very patiently for all the episodes on youtube, unfortunately I don't think it's on TV in Australia :( You did so well and you should be so proud. I know I probably would have thrown my machine out of a window due to stress, so it's probably a good thing there is no Aussie sewing bee.
ReplyDeleteIt would be pretty spectacular to throw your sewing machine into the Thames though wouldn't it? Would make great tele! Well done on your patience waiting for youtube, I don't know how I would have survived having to wait to watch
DeleteI actually filled up a bit during zipgate, I was WILLING the zip to actually mend itself! I cheered you on right to the very end, you were fab Deborah. And just remember: you got to the SEMI FINAL!!!!!!! x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jane! I was so happy that I reached the Semi-Final! Nothing could ever make me forget it :-) How amazing would it have been for the zip to magically mend?! What can you do? Sometimes it;s just not meant to be. Thanks so much for your support. X
DeleteYou were gorgeous to watch, and definitely my favourite! Congratulations on all your success!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Everyone's support has been absolutely brilliant
DeleteHi Deborah, I was so sad to see you go :(
ReplyDeleteBut, I am mainly commenting to say how fabulous I thought your alteration dress was. That bodice / neckline (what would you call it?) was brilliant. Did you come up with it completely from scratch or have you ever made something from a pattern that included that part? I'd really like to try it if so :)
PG
Hey PG, It all just sort of appeared in my brain I'm afraid, I'd never made anything like it before. I'm sure you could make that adjustment to a dress pattern though with a little bit of drafting maths. If I come up with something I shall let you know! Deb
DeleteYou should market a pattern :D Thanks, and well done again.
DeleteI really enjoyed this series of gbsb; the best yet. I was very sad when you were knocked out as I thought you'd reach the final. (That zip, oh no!) You did very well; the standard was higher than previously and the challenges tougher. The three in the final all deserved to be there. (I won't say who won in case it's a spoiler for some readers; a well deserved win) I was at Olympia on Saturday, didn't see you, but did see two of the others (Amanda and Neela) I didn't try to hug them, though! Should I have?
ReplyDeleteOoh now there's a question! Everyone loves a hug don't they? Take the opportunity where you can I say (always ask the hugees permission before inducing hug... he he)
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words, I really enjoyed the final and completely agree that they all deserved to be there X
Hi Deborah - where did you get your lace top from? Please dont say you made it, my sewing skills are no where near that level and I really love your top and want want want one! :-) You did great by the way, I think you're awesome! Eve, xx
ReplyDeleteHey Eve, I bought it from Urban Outfitter,s but it was a long time ago now so I'm not sure they'd still have it in stock unfortunately :-( I have my fingers crossed for you though!
ReplyDeleteooooh Deb, I was SO sad to see you go! I loved your triumphs and 'learning curves' (there are no 'failures' in sewing, I believe!). And that turquoise jacket was bloomin' gorgeous, zip be hanged! So many congratulations for taking it to the semi-final, and for being so great in the show. Can't wait to see what you do next!
ReplyDeleteI really really really really loved watching the sewing bee! I'm so happy we have bbc on our tv in the Netherlands!
ReplyDeleteLoved you're sewing work! :-)
This was such a sad episode - you were my favourite! *sobs* - but whatever the final result, you have so sooo much to be proud of over the series. Go you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, you were great, not just your sewing but your personality shone through. I thought the leather coat you chose was such a brave choice and harder than any if the others, you did a great job and without zip gate you would have finished. By the way I loved your colour choices. Hope you organise a meet up in manchester one day, there never seem to be many in the north. Maybe I'll get to meet you at the next minerva meet up!
ReplyDeleteOoh I'd like that Mags, I went along to last years and had a great time. And yes, I think it's a shame we haven't had a Northern meet-up as of yet. I'll try and get a good date in the diary!
Deletei was gutted when you left - i thought you were going to win - such a fab and fun personality - good luck in whatever you choose to do in the future i am bookmarking your blog as a new favourite xx
ReplyDeleteYou was my fave from the start and was gutted when you went (you were ROBBED I tell thee) but you did brilliantly and you've enjoyed a one of a kind experience, you can dine out on your sewing bee stories for years to come. Well done, I wish you every success xx
ReplyDeleteI really felt for you over zipgate because the exact same thing happened to me once. Although, obviously I wasn't in a sewing contest on the telly at the time! I just sat there, utterly stunned, with my dress in one hand, and the zip pull in the other. Shudder!! I thought you were fab on The Bee, and you so should have been in the final, and been the winner!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog a little while ago, but I don't think I've commented before :) I Loved you in GBSB and I wanted you to win!
ReplyDeleteFeeling the withdrawal symptoms already! You were awesome to watch. You had me at Liberty Lawn capri pants in E1! I only wished I'd discovered your blog before. Well done you. x
ReplyDeleteHi - i just found your blog via the sewing directory post and now following! congratulations on the sewing bee, its a great show but the timescales look so daunting at times especially when finish was being inspected.
